Response Time: Please note that I check course emails messages during regular business hours only (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). Thus, if you email me on Saturday afternoon, I ask that you do not expect a reply until Monday morning. I respond to emails within 24 hours, barring weekends. If you don’t hear back from me after the 24 hours have passed, a gentle reminder email is welcome.
Email Access: Email (mhart@wtamu.edu) is the best way to contact me. The Inbox option on the far lefthand toolbar of WTClass has everything you need.
Text Messaging: I use remind.com to send text messages to the class with announcements and reminders. If you wish to take advantage of these notices, text @drhart2321 to 81010. Please be aware that this is a one-way messaging system; replies are not possible.
Office Hours and Conferences: I will hold office hours on Thursdays from 9:00-1:00 CST in my office on the WTAMU campus (Classroom Center 319J--that's "J" as in "Jumanji") as well as by appointment. Email me for an appointment time; see also "Virtual Office Hours" below.
Virtual Office Hours via Zoom are available as well as face-to-face hours. Any student enrolled in my courses may take advantage of these, regardless of whether or not you live outside the Canyon area. Please email me to set up a Zoom conference time.
Telephone: Telephone calls are the least effective way to reach me. I will respond to voicemails left for me on my office phone (806-651-2477) as soon as I am able, but please be prepared for a delay. Emails are much faster!
When you need to reach me, please choose your preferred contact method, reach out, and wait for me to reply. Posting on all the discussion boards, emailing, sending a carrier pigeon, and leaving me a voicemail will not speed up my response time. It may actually slow me down, since I'll have all your messages to sort through to figure out what is going on. If you have not heard from me within 24 hours during the regular business week, I welcome a gentle reminder email.
