This class is fully online, asynchronous, and can be found on Canvas
It is also only a eight-week class!
My name is Ryan Bacchia (you can call me Prof. B), and I will be your online instructor for English 120/020. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and sharing our ideas and knowledge about a variety of topics. One other thing to keep in mind about our class is that it's only 8 Weeks! As opposed to the normal 16 week semester, it will be highly accelerated and busy at times. Furthermore, since this class also includes the 020 element, there will additional supportive materials every week. Therefore, you will need to devote anywhere between six-nine hours per week to classwork, in order to be successful.
In this class, we will work together to learn about the writing process, paragraph and essay structures, and useful grammatical concepts. This is a collaborative process and we are all in this together 😄.
One more thing about me: I am passionate about reading and writing, but I also love doing other activities such as binge-watching new shows (I recently enjoyed Fallout and Deadloch), going to concerts (last year, I went to Coachella and Bottle Rock music festivals), traveling to new places (I went to St. Martin earlier this year), and hanging out with my Golden Chow Chow, Miles.
This syllabus is designed to be mobile-friendly. It can be easily accessed from your smartphone. I encourage you to bookmark it on your phone so it's easy to find and reference when you need it.

Alternatively, you may email me @ ryan.bacchia@gcccd.edu or call/text me @ 619-206-4964. I really don't mind getting texts, and it's often a quicker way for me to get back to you. However, please make sure that you include your name and class, and please don't text me after 9 pm or before 9 am. Thanks!
Please allow around 24 hours for me to respond back to your emails. Also, here are a few pointers on email communication:
include your full name, class, and school.
it is your responsibility to follow the Course Calendar, so please consult it before you ask me questions about what is due.
if the answer to your question can be found in the Syllabus, Canvas, or assignment, please look there first.
always remember your audience—use proper grammar, an appropriate tone, and be clear and specific.
I am here, and I am a real person! So please always feel free to reach out and talk to me. Talking to students is my favorite part of the class.
We will have nearly weekly Zoom Office Hours and this is the perfect place for general course-related questions or more individualized questions and help with your writing. They will take place on most Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11-1 pm
