How your coursework is weighted ⚖️

Your grades are divided into the following six categories and worth a different amount of points that will be explained in more detail in our class.

3 Essays: 300 pts.
Discussions (6): 120 pts.
Workshops (3) 75 pts.
Quizzes (6) 75 pts.
Critical Reading Responses (3) 60 pts.
Engl. 020 Connections (6) 60 pts.
Engl. 020 Check-ins (3) 40 pts.
Padlets (3) 30 pts.
Total 760 pts.

Grading Scale

90%-100%: A 80%- 89%: B 70%-79%: C 60%-69%: D 0%-59%: F

At the end of the semester, if you are one percentage point or higher from the next grade, I will boost it. For example, a 89% or higher will become an A-.

Extra Credit Opportunities:

You can receive extra credit in multiple ways:

Submitting your paper for tutoring in the Writing Center (see information about this in Resources). You can receive 5 points extra credit for each submission, but you are limited to one visit (in person or virtually) per essay, so you can earn up to 10 points.
Attending at least one Zoom office hour with a question about something we are doing in class (5 pts.)
Additional assignments announced throughout the class
Make sure to read every page and assignment carefully as you will find "Easter eggs" hidden in the text that will offer extra credit opportunities. But, you must read everything closely!
Note: If you are found plagiarizing, you will no longer be allowed to complete any extra credit activities.

I know that getting good grades can sometimes be stressful. To help reduce that stress and improve the likelihood of getting your best grades, allow yourself the time and space you need to do your best work. Don't procrastinate, and if you get stuck on an assignment, reach out to me or one of your peers.
