One of the most interesting aspects to take a deeper look with AI, primarily generative AI, is creative writing. The main questions withing this field are "Can an AI actually write creatively" and "Are the stories of creative writing owned by the AI or prompter?"
"AI-generated work with no or only very limited human input, no one would legally qualify as an author of these works. This is because a human cannot qualify as an author in this case since they do not contribute to the creative expression of the work, while an AI cannot qualify as an author since the law requires authors to be human" (Formosa et. al.). It will be interesting to see how laws and ethic guides on AI use change over time and if they will become tighter or looser than the initial guidelines.
As the laws and guidelines are adapted to better resemble the changing, adapting state of AI, it is important to have an understanding on the viewpoints of AI. "Understanding how people perceive Artificial Intelligence (AI) -generated creative writing is essential. AI-generated creative writing may raise questions about its authenticity and the role of creativity in the writing process. Understanding how people perceive AI-generated writing can help us identify areas where creativity and authenticity are most important and where AI can enhance rather than replace human creativity" (Landa-Blanco et. al.). They key phrasing here is to enhance rather than replace. The augmentation that AI can bring even to writing and creative fields is important; some of the key benefits are increased productivity and an easier barrier of entry for those interested in the fields.
