The topic that I have chose to do my project on, is how the media portrays the LGBT+ community. The portrayal of the LGBT+ community in the media has been negative. When discussing media of various groups, for example considering marginalized and stereotype are often a concern. Just because someone breaks a stereotype, doesn't mean they are negative or positive. To determine whether or not a character is represented in a positive or negative way, you must explore different approaches to the way the media characterizes the LGBT+ people. Homophobia, Stigma, discrimination, and powerlessness against gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men still exist to this day. These negative attitudes towards gay men (or anyone in our community) can affect their health and well-being of this community. Issues that gay men run into are homophobia, stigma, and discrimination can; affect your income, limit access to high quality health care that is responsive to your health issues, adds to poor mental health and poor coping skills, affects your ability to have and maintain long-term same-sex relationships, makes it harder for you to be open about your sexual orientation, and severe depression. My script is made to inform you on the information I found that goes with my topic.
