Unless otherwise noted, novels may be either physical or electronic. Additional texts will be provided via Schoology. While most assignments will be completed using the iPad, many students appreciate the tactile experience of reading and annotating a physical book. Other than the Shakespeare text, this is a practice I personally enjoy and encourage.
As a class, we do many annotations and poster projects in our study of literature. For these purposes, please bring colorful pens, highlighters, markers, and post-it notes.
To teach 21st century skills, we will use technology in the classroom daily. Please begin exploring and using the most essential tools (found below) immediately; we will add more apps and sites to these as the year progresses. Choose passwords that can be easily recalled or store them in a secure, organized way.
Mercy G-mail: E-mail is the most direct method of communication so students should check this often; be careful to stay logged in to your Mercy Jaguars account for other Google log-ins.
PowerSchool: This school system houses attendance and grades; parents should also access this system.
Schoology: This app/website functions as a social network for the classroom. Teachers can post messages, updates, lessons, and assignments. Students can view and turn in assignments electronically.
Notability: This app allows students to create notes, annotate documents, draw, etc. Students may choose to take notes on paper or with another app, but Notability is typically the most popular choice.
Microsoft Office/Google Suite: These office suites include applications for word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, etc..
LFPL.org: Research will be done through the Louisville Free Public Library, so each student needs a library account with a Username and Password to sign in to the library’s website.
