HOW TO GET THERE FROM LISBON?

By Car

The trip from Lisbon to Covilhã takes approximately 3 hours by car. Take the A1 highway north from Lisbon, then connect to the A23 towards Guarda. Follow the signs to Covilhã and the University of Beira Interior. The roads are well-maintained and offer scenic views as you approach the Serra da Estrela mountains.

By Bus

Several bus companies operate routes from Lisbon to Covilhã, with journeys lasting around 3 to 4 hours. Buses depart either from Lisbon's Oriente terminal or the Sete Rios terminal. The two main operators are Rede Expressos and FlixBus.

By Train

Trains from Lisbon's Santa Apolónia or Oriente stations to Covilhã are available, usually requiring a transfer in Entroncamento or Castelo Branco. The total journey time is approximately 3 to 4 hours. From Covilhã train station, the University of Beira Interior is a short taxi ride or a 10-minute bus trip away. You can check the timetables and the routes here.

Inside Covilhã

Getting around Covilhã is very easy. You can use public transport for €1.85. This amount must be paid in cash when boarding the bus. You can check the timetables and the routes here covilhamobilidade.pt or via the app (Covilhã Mobilidade). If you prefer private transport, Uber or Bolt are a great option.
