This project has been developed with the efforts of Mohsen Fatemi (Ph.D. student in the School of Public Affairs and Administration, University of Kansas) and Ty Gorman (Sierra Club Beyond Coal Campaign in Kansas). In the time that we are witnessing massive changes in the energy system in the US, hopefully, this project not only will be the beginning of more partnerships between the Sierra Club and KU students but also will empower students to meaningfully develop their skills to represent their communities while they are most needed to engage in the democratic opportunities to build a cleaner and safer energy system.
This internship program is divided into two different phases ㅡ Spring and Summer semesters. The Spring semester section will focus on educating students about the energy system in the US and raising their awareness around justice issues. On the other hand, the Summer semester will focus on solutions and strategies that can be adopted to address justice issues that were identified in the earlier section.
A decision on the details of the Summer section will be made upon making progress in the Spring semester to better accommodate the needs of the students who participate in this internship program.
