Kihyun gave an invited talk in the "Invited Lecture by a New Scientist" session at the 2025 Korea Electrical and Electronic Material Engineers Institute Summer Conference. Kihyun presented his work on Localized Surface Plasmon Resonances of Copper Chalcogenide Nanostructures, which demonstrates novel light interaction with semiconductor nanostructures.

Our research, "Coupling Interfacial Redox-Reactions with In Situ Proton Generation for the Photoelectrochemical Separation of Rare-Earth Elements", has been published in Advanced Functional Materials! This work demonstrates a photoelectrochemical (PEC) ion recovery system that utilizes renewable solar energy to enhance the sustainability of electrochemical separations for resource recovery. A combination of TiO2 nanorods and a redox-copolymer enables spontaneous cation adsorption and light-activated redox reactions for regeneration, thus demonstrating a PEC pathway for REE recovery.
