The Enadian Union was founded a year ago today, and central squares across the union are ringing in celebration of this momentous anniversary. The Saturday beforehand, the President of the Union made an address to the region on the occasion:
This 4th of July the Enadian Union goes back a year ago since it's Foundation Day.
We remember and cherish all the values that makes us, truly Enadian, proud and united under our flag's shining stars, with the stripes of our Union covering all corners of the Earth.
Enadia could never be the region that it is today. Without the contribution of generations of Enadians leaving their mark upon this sacred land that we all can proudly call home.
Enadia has proudly kept its title as a beacon of hope for many others and today we pass this torch of light to the next and upcoming generations of Enadians.
This 4th of July, we welcome you and hope that you join our cause, by changing your nation's flag to the one of our Union's. Show your support and love for Enadia and proudly raise our Union's flag in your Government Institutions. I know we will!
Enadianly yours,
Harry GODFREY
President of the Enadian Union
Enadia Day, as it turns out, does in fact fall on the day that Americans observe Independence Day, which commemorates the occasion on which the 13 original American colonies on the current-day U.S. East Coast declared independence from the British realm. The Continental Congress actually approved it through a vote on July 2nd; however, many from the onset decided to celebrate the date published on copies distributed throughout the colonies--July 4th.
Enadia, it seems, wishes to use this time as an opportunity for pressing reset button; this was made apparent as the President unveiled his plans for Enadia’s second year of existence, named “Enadia 2.0”. The forum post, which can be found here, touches on new policies in terrorism, recruiting, military affairs and updated the community on some upcoming projects such as The Houses of Enadia. It also mentioned the NationStates World Radio, which has been in an embryonic idea phase since June. It is planned to be unveiled by the end of this year’s SummerFest.

I apologize for the interruption. But what I have to say - is somewhat important.
I founded Enadia upon the principles of Democracy, Politics, Freedom but most importantly Love. The unconditional type of love, that I've shared with all of you without hesitation or second thoughts.
And I've always strived to serve and bring smile upon your faces. But most importantly I always wanted to be there for you, not as a friend. But as an older brother and sometimes a person of somewhat importance to your life.
I feel honoured to have been your President, I feel honoured to have served you with humbleness and dignity the past 12 months. But most importantly I feel honoured to have grown among you and to have learned so many things from you. Great lessons said by great people.
I am afraid though that every great journey, must come to its own end. I was handed an office in misery, issues and a huge crisis which was accumulated over the past two terms. I can say that we successfully have put that crisis behind our shoulders and that we're moving now forward taking firm steps of progress and innovation.
But unfortunately due to my real life responsibilities and my health conditions I can not keep doing what I am doing right now. I have faith that the next President and the next cabinet (whichever that might be) will do whatever is necessary to make Enadia, a much greater region than it already is.
I have faith in all of you - that you will continue this dream united against all odds and possible risen conflicting conditions.
I hereby would like to announce that I will not be running for re-election in the EU 05 Administration. It is time for a new and fresh face to wear my boxing Gloves and continue my dream from here on.
Although I won't be running I will continue to serve the upcoming leaders as a citizen of the Enadian Union. And as an extend [sic]*, I will continue to be serving my regional mates!
Thank you for all your love and support for almost a year now! ❤
Enadianly yours,
Sir Harry

On June 20th, the Enadian government welcomed an envoy of officials from the Szaborian Monarchy. Leaders discussed diplomatic and domestic issues while coming up with ideas for the development of both regions. It has been noted that this state visit came and went quicker than the last; in fact, a treaty was signed just a couple of days later after some negotiations. The treaty can be found here:

On Tuesday, the LCRUA closed a poll in which the region’s member states voted in a majority FOR a proposal to exit AIR. The proposal lists reasons for leaving, such as the overwhelming inactivity in AIR except for LCRUA and Enadia, and the feeling that Enadia may be trying to form a hegemony in the organization. According to a tweet from the President, the Union has yet to comment on this situation. Several members of AIR leadership who were from LCRUA promptly resigned from their posts.
This week, after the situation unfolded, the E.M.P. got into contact with Krypton Nova (known by many as KN), a member of the LCRUA and a prominent officer and delegate in AIR military and civilian leadership, respectively. He has decided to give the readers of the E.M.P. his take on the situation, and what the remaining AIR regions can do to fix it.
“As you know, LCRUA left AIR for reasons such as lack of activity and the growing influence of Enadia in the organization. Do you think, knowing the reasons set forth in the proposal, that this was a good decision? (as he types his response…) And when I say the reasons, I am quoting the proposal put forth before LCRUA voters, by the way.”
“Yes, if the situation remains as it is. It isn't as simple as that answer though.
“Enadia is a wonderful region, and would be a great partner if our interests are aligned. However, it tends to make a poor ally. In its bid to be the best region it (unconsciously) tramples other regions' efforts, appears to compete with allies, and worse, puts its own interests first and the alliance's second. While that is logical it won't make for a strong alliance. But this wouldn't have been a big problem, and certainly wouldn't have been enough for the LCRUA to leave, if the other members of AIR were actively participating in the alliance.
“Currently AIR feels as if most member regions of AIR (definitely excluding Enadia) take it for granted, and do not actively participate in it to make it realise its potential. An alliance maintained by only a few of its members is an unhealthy one, unlikely to succeed in its stated goals, and may even reduce the potential of its active members.
“I hope for AIR that it changes drastically, enticing its member regions to actively engage in keeping it a healthy alliance. While this is not the case (and it has not been the case for a few months now) I can't advise my region to be a part of it.
“I must point out that the reason stated in the proposal expresses a very limited view on the situation, as it must be brief. Anything positive about Enadia, which it otherwise does deserve, doesn't belong there as it wouldn't be a reason for leaving.”
“I see, and your point about the proposal being limited in view for the sake of necessary briefness is understandable. By the way, if you do not mind, could you, for our readers who may not have as much experience with AIR, state whether you held any office in AIR's leadership, and if so, which ones?”
“I was the LCRUA's Delegate in AIR since shortly after it was founded, and helped a bit in getting it started (mainly with the Charter) before that. When we left AIR I held an officer position in its military.”
“Alright...yes, I thought the readers would need to know that this is a person who had a seat at the table and thus would legitimately know about the situation.
“Now let's say for a moment that the LCRUA voted overwhelmingly ‘no’ to this proposal. What extents do you think LCRUA would have gone to fix this situation that you are speaking of, inactivity and the increasingly overbearing Enadian influence, etc.? As you know, Enadia was (and if I'm not mistaken, might still be as far as I know) militarily sanctioned by A.I.R. Do you think it would have escalated to talks of ejecting the EU from the organization had the LCRUA not been able to leave?”
“I think some of our active members, at least for a while, would have joined in the inactivity regarding AIR had the poll resulted in us staying. People were getting frustrated with AIR as a whole, which is the reason the subject of leaving came up. Some of us may also have tried to help fix the situation. It's really a personal stance I believe, I can't speak for all our members in this regard.
"What I can say is that the topic of ejecting the EU has come up multiple times already, but in relation to scandals. This wasn't a scandal, merely a realisation of the situation we already found ourselves in.”
“And you are correct, I think I shall let the readers know right now that while these views may be similar to other views your region, they are personal views, really.
“Seeing LCRUA as the other main active member region besides Enadia, do you think AIR is now a lost cause or do you think there is still hope? (as he types his response) Excuse me for the inconvenience of adding to the question while you are trying to answer, but it should be noted in asking you that previous question about AIR's continued existence that many on gameside forums predict this to be the end of AIR, so maybe you can address that in your response?”
“If its members want to see it succeed and work to maintain it, it isn't a lost cause. Looking at the nation counts, The LCRUA was one of the smaller regions in AIR. There are 5 regions in AIR which are larger than ours. Yet we were one of the most active regions. If we can do it I believe there are 5 regions in AIR which should at least be able to rival our activity: Enadia, 21st Century Rome, The Free Nations Region, Aukum and Westphalia. Enadia did so, but there's still a lot of untapped potential here.
"As long as it remains untapped AIR is bound to decay over time and eventually fade into obscurity, or perhaps disband. There definitely is hope if AIR's members can band together to improve AIR, but we're not betting our future on it.”
“There are some that have chosen to stay, from what I've seen the past couple of days, whether it be due to just being away from the keyboard and missing the recent news or actually putting their foot in the ground so-to-speak. Do you have anything to say to the people that have decided to stay, a word of encouragement or attempt at reasoning with them to join the region in it's decision perhaps?”
“To those who wish to stay I'd say this:
"As is the case for many, time and focus are in short supply for me, so I can't stay. But if you can and want to stay to help AIR push through, I'd wholeheartedly support that decision. Maybe you'll be able to look back months into the future and say that AIR is still around, despite everything, and that you helped it get there. Maybe you'll be able to rightly state that the LCRUA was foolish to leave AIR. I sure hope so.”
“Despite this decision, do you think Enadia can still have relations with the LCRUA now that AIR is not, if I may put it this way, holding you to having good relations? I want to assume from your responses that it is possible, but I want your take on it.”
“Personally I think it is possible, but I couldn't give a decisive yes or no as I'm not in the position to decide on matters of diplomacy. I would be for maintaining good relations should they ask my advice.”
“I see; one last question: what do you think ought to be done to try and get more members to be active, and how do you personally feel the EU should address this matter since they are now the, judging from history and responses so far, the sole glue of the organization, if I may put it that way?”
“That is probably the hardest question of this interview. The activity problem is similar to the one every region faces, except there is a far larger pool of nations to draw from, but with the trade-off that most nations just aren't interested. There's never just one reason for inactivity.
“It helps if a region has already a few active people in AIR, especially if those people are influential in their own region. They may be able to convince others to help.
“I'd try using the API to send telegrams alliance-wide. Not too often because that annoys people, but often enough to let nations know AIR still exists. Make such a telegram brief, just enough to peak their interest, and with links to dispatches in case they wish to delve deeper. Note that off-site links don't work in telegrams, so keep them in dispatches. Maybe having some kind of monthly newsletter? I'm sure Enadia can make magic happen with this (although don't overdo it, nations aren't as patriotic about AIR as they are about Enadia and you risk off-putting them if you overdo it).”
“Perhaps there's also a structural change AIR needs to go through to give regions more reason to engage. As most regions in AIR are large it could be considered to increase the amount of delegates per region, potentially bringing more people to help. You should find out why some delegates are inactive. Or perhaps the Board-of-Trustees model with the military and civilian branches isn't working and some new structure is necessary. This can be found out easily by just asking the regions how well they like it.
“I have the impression the forums hold people back, perhaps AIR should try to find alternatives to using forums. This is mainly regarding the military, where new members are asked to join two discord servers and sign up to the forums in order to join... you can imagine how off-putting that is if you only intended to play NS and haven't used discord before.
“Those are just a few suggestions. It's hard to figure out exactly why there is inactivity. Maybe an alliance-wide survey might shed some light on it, and if not, AIR will have to try different things to remedy the situation. It's likely something that can be fixed, but how is a big question. I hope AIR finds the answer to it :)”
The E.M.P. also got in contact with the President of the Union, Latman, who is still a member of the Board of Trustees. We asked him for his take on the situation and even gave him the chance to respond to some of KN’s comments.
“I am going to ask you the same question I asked KN to start: first of all, what position and experience do you currently have in AIR (for the readers who may not have as much experience)?”
“Currently I serve on the Board of Trustees of AIR and as an AIR Commander in the joint AIR - FORCE - Dragons military.”
“I see. As you know, in the proposal put forth before the LCRUA voters, the reasons cited for the region's departure include the org-wide inactivity and what they see as a increasingly-overwhelming Enadian influence in the organization.
"When I interviewed KN on the matter of if he thought it was reasonable for LCRUA to leave AIR based on those reasons, he said:” (I give him KN’s answer to the same question)
“Well thank you for pointing that out. Fortvento aka KN, is a widely known and respected individual within the Enadian community. I have often pointed out that KN is a gem for the LCRUA Government. But despite that, I believe that there is currently an on-going, unstable political environment evolving in the LCRUA.
“My office recently received a proposal by their President, South Asians, who was requesting that the EU to place its active population in a new region similar to The Gray Wardens. This proposal received heavy criticism and opposition and soon was dismissed by the Enadian Government. We believe that the current structure of AIR is working fine, but it certainly needed more professionalism and engagement by its most active members--the EU and the LCRUA.
“Lately I have been in contact with KN and we even spoke for longer than 3 hours on the phone, where we went back and forth on different ways that could benefit AIR's future Development. I find it shocking that, after we rejected SA’s proposal to move our active population to a new region which would be similar, in terms of leadership and structure, to the current form of AIR, he immediately started an AIRXIT campaign.
“I personally don't agree with KN's opinion that the EU has trampled LCRUA's efforts. While the LCRUA has made great contributions in AIR's military, they have contributed in a minimal way in the development of AIR in terms of projects and engagement. We have been in contact with their government several times, asking them specifically to engage themselves in a more professional way within the AIR community and assist us in getting several key projects up and running. But not much has been done.
“In my opinion, the LCRUA created a rushed project with little thought put into it, which was rejected by the EU 04, followed up by another rushed referendum to exit AIR without establishing proper communications with AIR leaders and their counterparts in the Enadian Union.”
“I see. Do you have a copy of this proposal still?”
“The proposal was not even drafted. It was an idea mostly, asked as a favor on a personal level.”
“When you mention their lack of professionalism and their minimal efforts, do you have any specific examples to back this up, besides the region incident?”
“Mostly SA's reactions and overreactions in AIR's Gameplay Embassy thread and their actions during the EU's international defamation about 4 months ago. I was blocked from the BoT discussions regarding EU's future. For the readers knowledge, the BoT's are sovereign entities that work for AIR's development. Once a BoT, you don't have any regional Identity, but your job description is to work for AIR's development.”
“Do you think the LCRUA and Enadia, despite this history and the recent decision, can continue to have good relations? When I talked to KN on this matter he said he personally hopes so. So, your response to that, Mr. President?”
“Oh of course, yes! This is the nature of politics. Sometimes we agree and work extensively and sometimes we disagree and stand firm on our decisions. But that is the nature of politics and healthy interactions!”
“What do you think would have happened if the LCRUA had voted no to departing AIR. Do you think the region would have resorted to perhaps sanctions or even talks of having to kick the EU, as it has in the past with this Spring's scandals?”
“I don't believe that the LCRUA would have suggested a possible EU kick from AIR. We have a complex relationship. We cooperate in terms of defense and military and we differ on the ways that we do politics.”
"I see. Well, now that the EU seems to be the remaining influential region (influential on the level that LCRUA was anyway), what do you think the EU should do to possibly get AIR through this?"
“The EU and AIR have always had a special bond and a relationship with one another. I was elected by the Enadian citizens and I am sure that they don't expect me to go to AIR and give lectures to foreign governments on how to fix their issues and become active. The EU will continue to do what we're doing right now and we will continue to serve our duty of being a Beacon of Hope for others.”
“So, based on your response, can one assume that the EU will stay in AIR and keep putting in the effort of getting these regions to be more active or will Enadia move on to other pursuits for the good of the people?”
“I am sure that this is something for the future EU governments to decide and act upon, to be honest. The EU 04 is on its way out and as I have already stated I don't intend running for a second term. With that being said, I can assure your readers that I don't plan to to force or rush a EU AIRXIT in my last days in office; as BoT I will continue to serve in AIR.”
“I see. Do you have any ideas as a BoT that would get AIR more involved again, and do you think there are any reforms that need to take place.
"When I asked KN this question about rejuvenating AIR, he suggested more delegates from each region, greater advertisement of the organization through a possible telegram or newsletter, and even went to the extent of suggesting an overhaul of the entire structure for the sake of transparency and efficiency. Your response to that, Mr. President?”
“Well that was part of our discussion with KN and these were the points we agreed upon. I even suggested the creation of an AIR parliament similar to the European Union's structure!”
“Well, what do you say personally to to those who have taken the recent event as an opportunity to say "I was right about AIR falling" or "I placed my bets, I win", and also, what do you say to people who think Enadia will use this as a window for consolidating AIR into a hegemony? Because people have made these thoughts known on gameside forums.”
“I've seen those comments as well. I can't say that I necessarily agree with their concept of a won bet or a fallen Alliance. As long as there is a caring hand and people with kind hearts, there is always hope. Regarding the Enadian Union using this as an opportunity to consolidate AIR into a hegemony, I highly disagree. The EU has always been the most dominant force in both the ITDA and later on AIR itself; however, we never used our dominations over our allies, or to towards the policy-making of AIR. We respect our allies sovereignty as much as we respect our own!”
“For the reader's knowledge, the ITDA was the predecessor, I'm assuming. Did you have any role in ITDA as well?”
“I was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the ITDA was the Interregional Trade and Defense Alliance”
“I see. Do you know about whether it just faded or did this happen to merge with AIR?”
“We merged three orgs into one - thus we formed AIR”
“I thank you for your time, Mr. President. By the way, it has been revealed that you will not be running for another term. What are your plans after this, and do you think there is a possibility you may eventually run again in the distant future?”
“In a distant future I might. For now I need to focus on myself and take care of some health issues that I am currently facing.”
