We Are Writers
We believe that the best teachers of writing are teachers that write. As a member of the Eastern Michigan Writing Project, you become a member of a writing community, a group of teachers that engage in meaningful and authentic writing experiences.
Saturday Sacred Writing Times
Even when our schedules are increasingly filled throughout the school year, being a part of this writing community means that you’re invited for occasional Saturday meet-ups. Enjoy the encouragement and support from teacher-writers all year long and use it as an opportunity to work on that piece that you have wanted to write.
These Sacred Writing Times will be announced as they are scheduled. If you would like to be included contact Angela Knight.
Writing Retreats
Guided by Teacher Consultants Angela Knight and Kris Gedeon, EMWP teacher consultants travel to Eastern Michigan University’s Parsons Center in Lake Ann, Michigan. There, these teachers share writing prompts, find their muses, and embrace opportunities to share their writing goals and pieces with other teachers. Angela and Kris have been coordinating these retreats since 2009.
Writing Marathons
EMWP TCs find writing inspiration everywhere. Every Summer Institute and every Writing Retreat begin with a writing marathon, a chance for teacher-writers to fill their writer’s notebooks in a judgment-free space. Whether it’s the Leslie Science Center, the Tall Ship Manitou on the Grand Traverse Bay, or the Ann Arbor Municipal Airport, our teacher consultants find writing around them and to share with others.
