In this picture you can see a game that the girls team played against (MMS) Montgomery Middle school. You can also see that Emerald is on defense while MMS is on offense. This a picture from our second game of the football season. Another thing you can see or notice in this picture is our defense positions, we are in these positions because when we are on defense the blockers move back so that they don’t get very close to the touch down.

Spotlight: Girls Football

Hi, my name is Teresa and I am going to be telling you about the girls team football games against HMS, MMS, GMS, MMS, LCMS, and CVMS.

Our first football game was against Hillsdale Middle School. It was their first practice/game but they were pretty good. We didn’t know if we should go easy or play how we usually play which is hard. The coach said that because it was their first game we should go easy on them so we did. At the end of the game we were at 13 to 13 and we had the ball, so as soon as our quarterback said hike we blocked and she threw the ball to one of the wide receivers who caught the ball for the extra point. The score was 14 to 13 so we won by one point but they put up a good fight. When we were done we shook hands then went to sit down with our team so the coaches could talk to us and give feedback. We were really happy to have a game the next day against Montgomery Middle School. (MMS)

Our second game was against MMS. It was a pretty hard game, but we were able to make it through. When we scored first. At the end of the game the score was 18-0. We were so happy that we won our second game so we were super confident that we are going to win our third game against Greenfield. (GMS)

Our third game against Greenfield was difficult because they were really good. We managed to get a touchdown after they scored a touchdown and got the extra point. We got all the way up to 14 points and tied the game. Then we scored to make the score 20-14, but then we missed the extra point. They had the ball and they scored to make the score 20-20 and the game ended with a tie. We were happy that we didn’t win or lose. We were so happy about our next game that we had against (MMS) again.

Our fourth game against MMS was pretty fun. The score was 35-0, and we won. The game seemed easier since we had played them before.

We were super happy about our fifth game against LCMS. Our fifth football game was pretty easy because when we were playing they were mostly offensive. It was pretty easy to get to their quarterback to pull her flag. At the end of the game the score was 20-0 so we won. We were kind of scared to play against CVMS because they are really good.

Our sixth game against CVMS was difficult because they were really good at pulling flags and running the ball. The score at the end of this game was 14-7.

This is all about the girls football games so far, thank you.

ASB

ASB kicked off the school year with the Back to School Assembly!

Today’s story is about Emerald’s first assembly of the year. To me, that was the greatest assembly I ever saw. Anyways back to the article. To start it off, the first scene was our cheer team doing a cheer for us. It was great. There were flips and jumps and dances on a black, long looking foam mat that stretched out about the size of a classroom floor. After the performance, four cheerleaders went to roll up the mats. When they were finished, two girls walked to the center of the stage. They announced that the assembly games have now started and that the first game was a balloon game.

The rules were very simple. One, get a partner. It was 6th vs 7th vs 8th grade. So it had to be two kids from each grade. Two, tie balloons to both kid's feet. Three, tell them to go stand at one corner of the rectangle where the tape was to keep space for the game. Four, when ready say go. The three teams with two people each went at the other team's balloons if your balloon popped or fell off you were out.

The next game was called hungry hippos. In this game, you had to get with a partner again. But this time you push your partner on this weird looking old fashion Mario cart with no windshield and no steering wheel and lastly no seat belts and no doors. And to go forward is by your partner pushing you to the other side to grab some marshmallows and come back. After you got back you and your partner would switch so if you were pushing now you're on the cart. The team with the most marshmallows at the end won. The 8th grade team won this game.

The next game was hula hoop run. The hula hoop run was where multiple teams of four ran to get hula hoops and if they dropped it that had to do 10 jumping jacks and you had to hula all the way. Once you got back to your team with all four hula hoops, you had to construct a mini-tower that stood on its own and then your team would win.

The last game was where two people would first knock over three water bottles with nothing but their head after that they had to tear up lots of paper and then they blew up a balloon to use the air to knock down more water bottles. And then they spun around a bat ten times got a balloon went into the hula hoop put the balloon down and sat on it.

The assembly was such a great way to kick off the 2019-2020 year at Emerald! Thank you to ASB for all of their hard work.

ON CAMPUS

Culinary Arts with Ms. Walsh

Ms. Walsh started teaching the culinary arts elective this year. Culinary arts is learning how to prepare, cook, and present food. In her class they make cookies, brownies and other stuff. Ms. Walsh enjoys her cooking class because she likes teaching kids other skills. She said, “it’s not only cooking, we have to learn how to measure, we have to learn how to use the oven.’’

For the class's first experience they baked sugar cookies. Ms. Walsh said, "I want to bake brownies next! I hope they turn out good!"
