2021-2022 EMS Committee Descriptions
6th Grade Orientation- Incoming 6th graders visit the school in small groups at the end of August. Assist with handing out snacks and at the PTA table.
8th Grade Farewell BBQ - Parents do the barbecuing and coordinate food and supply donations. Chairs will coordinate over all afternoon and music. Video yearbook shown.
Barnes and Noble Event- A fun and successful fundraiser for PTA. Help is needed to coordinate and set up events for the day and organize raffles.
Blood Drive - Assist PTA Council Chair with Fall and Spring Blood Drives. Sign up blood donors.
Book Fair - Chair coordinates volunteers and sets up the fair. Students shop with their classes over 3 days in November.
Spiritwear- Spiritwear sales throughout the year. Select merchandise, prepare and process order forms and distribute completed orders.
Holiday Boutique - Organize a boutique for the children to purchase affordable holiday gifts during lunch.
Literacy Week –This committee is responsible for organizing a writing contest probably January - February. Includes theme selection, publicizing the contest, securing prize donations and collecting submissions.
Membership –The membership drive kicks off in August and runs through March. The committee also welcomes new enrollments as well as the incoming sixth grade parents at orientation and introduces them the Middle School PTA.
Parents’ Night Out – book, plan and run a night out for parents in the fall at a local venue. This may include putting together baskets for a Chinese auction.
Plant Sale – The plant sale is held the week before Mother's Day. There is a pre-sale and the opportunity for children purchase plants during their lunch periods. The chairperson will contact and work with a wholesaler and schedule volunteers.
Rec. Nights- Rec. nights are an opportunity for students to get together for a few hours on a Friday night during the winter. Basketball, dodge ball, board games are some of the fun things that the students can do. Parents are needed to help set up, supervise and sell, snacks, and drinks.
Reflections - A National PTA sponsored cultural arts program with six categories. At the local level, the program begins in the fall and ends with a District-wide Showcase of all student submissions in November. Committee members are needed to help log in entries and set up for the Showcase.
Scholarship – Choose High Senior who has volunteered at EMS to receive a $500 scholarship from EMS PTA. We have a set rubric to use for the process.
School Pictures - Coordinate a photographer for two days in September and schedule volunteers.
Staff Appreciation - Committee selects a theme and organizes food, decorations, and raffles. Setting up and cleaning up is always part of the fun!
