Effective Feedback Giving and Receiving in Academic Context
Effective feedback is a cornerstone of academic growth and collaboration. “Publish or perish”, imposter syndrome, unrealistic expectations, perfectionism, work-life imbalance, you name it. Many obstacles can impair our well-being and prevent us from enjoying our work and life. In this workshop, we will share, reflect, pause and take the time to ask ourselves what are our reasons to engage into seemingly destructive behaviors. We will use techniques from different therapy models to inspire you to become more gentle with yourself and let go of expectations so that you can regain joy and energy in the work you are doing, and in your life. In this workshop, you’ll get to know and connect with other participants in a unique way, learn a few things about yourself, and likely have some fun while doing so. The workshop will be facilitated in English. Clément Lafon Placette is a plant biology associate professor in Charles University, and in parallel has been facilitating workshops and one-on-one counselling about well-being for a few years. Whether we want it or not, we are made of a body and we are emotional beings. This is often disregarded in science, where everything is about being rational and such, and yet we are humans interacting with each other (until AI takes over at least). If we fool ourselves thinking emotions are not important in science while we are led by them, we are blind to what is driving us. This may at worst lead to abuse (self inflicted or to others) and at best, lead to a lack of joy and aliveness. In this workshop, we'll then simply do that: have our body move as a groundwork to learn to mindfully be present with emotions. With the intention of making more mindful daily decisions when it comes to science, but first and foremost, to gain some more aliveness and joy. What we'll do is based on somatic and dance therapy. The workshop does not require any skill in dancing whatsoever, and it will not be very intense in terms of physical effort. It is not about performing; it is simply about getting your body to express itself. You just need to bring yourself and comfortable clothes
