According to Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 2000), three basic psychological needs must be met for students to develop intrinsic motivation.
Students need to feel they have control over their learning. Providing choices in assignments or activities boosts engagement.
Students must believe they can succeed. Offering tasks that are appropriately challenging and providing constructive feedback fosters a sense of achievement.
A sense of belonging is crucial. Building positive relationships with peers and teachers enhances motivation.
