By definition, a Mentor is "an experienced and trusted adviser". In this case, your Mentor is here to answer your questions, provide insights and share their own experiences of how they progressed through their own career in events management, to help you pave your own path within the industry yourself.
Mentors and mentorship programmes provide advice, help build your communication skills and also create a network within the industry that can hopefully lead to various opportunities.
You should:
Be a student/recent graduate of an Event Management or related course
Have less than 2 years experience
Be passionate about starting a career in the events industry
Be open to discussing personal and professional development goals
Be confident in your abilities and goals and open to new experiences
Be able to commit to a minimum of 1-hour per month with your mentor
Roles include:
Setting goals to achieve throughout the programme
Communicating with your mentor to arrange meetings
Being pro-active in planning meeting agendas and working on tasks to achieve your goals
Tracking your progress
Maintaining an open and honest relationship with your Mentor
Although things may change slightly, here is a current outline of what the programme will entail:
A full outline of the programme and the terms and conditions will be shared
The programme will begin with a Mentee Preparation Session to help you understand what the programme will include, how to prepare and how to make the most out of the 6-months
You will be given a Mentee Tool Kit including guides and templates to help you manage the preparations throughout the event
You will be introduced to your Mentor via email and it will then be your responsibility to communicate and arrange your 1:1 sessions going forward. There is a commitment of a minimum of 1-hour per month, and it is decided by both you and your Mentor how you will utilise this time.
You will be invited to join a a Networking Group with all Mentees and Mentors to help build on your industry connections and also a Mentee Support Group to seek advice and support from other mentees too
There will be a number of webinars, workshops and networking events throughout the programme to help gain as much as possible from the programme
Over the coming weeks, further details on the next Mentor Programme will be confirmed and the website will be updated confirming new application opening dates, application deadlines, and programme launch dates for early 2022!
Once applications open, the form will be added below for you to complete. Mentees will be accepted and paired with their Mentor based on the details included in the form so it is really important to consider the questions asked and include as much detail as possible.
Only once the deadline for applications ends will all applicants be considered, so you can expect to not hear about your application status until this point. Due to a large number of applicants, unfortunately, not everybody can be accepted onto the programme.
If not accepted, you are still able to join the EM Mentoring Networking Group on LinkedIn. This is the chance to connect with other students/graduates in a similar position and also industry professionals. You can join discussions, keep updated on industry news and also attend a number of events that will be shared with the EM Mentoring Network.
Be the first to know when applications open by registering your interest in the form below!
You can also join the EM Mentoring Network Group on LinkedIn and follow the EM Mentoring social channels to keep updated, join events and connect with others! Find the details here.
