Hi, everyone! My name is Emma White and the research my group has decided to investigate this semester are issues among the lesbian, gay, transgender, queer, etc (LGBTQ+) community. My specific topic, however, focuses on LGBTQ+ youth in regards to homelessness. Homelessness is one of the most pressing issues facing LGBTQ+ individuals. In the United States, nearly 4.2 million LGBTQ+ youth experience homelessness each year. According to a recent report, LGBTQ youth and young adults are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than their straight and cisgender peers. Service providers also estimate anywhere from 20-40% of youth experiencing homelessness identify as LGBTQ. During this podcast, I will talk in detail about individual experiences, laws and regulations, and lastly, preventative actions the government is taking to lower these statistics. Being informed about these LGBTQ+ issues can be eye-opening and help break down many pre-conceived ideologies that may be damaging and hard to wrap your head around. Give the podcast a listen below! Thank You!
