Homeworld: Vast Reaches is a virtual-reality real-time strategy game a part of the Homeworld series. It was released May 2, 2024, on the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 with plans to eventually release on Steam VR.
I was the project lead and producer on the User Experience Research data collection project for Homeworld: Vast Reaches. While not a part of the primary game development team, my goals for the project were:
Find players within the game's demographics to playtest the game's features from Demo through Beta production phases.
Conduct qualitative interviews and user tests to gather focused data that would empower designers to improve gameplay in an informed way.
Discover immediate problematic areas and report reproduction steps to assist developers with pinpointing difficult-to-track bugs.
My primary responsibilities included spearheading the coordination of 12+ research sessions with 4-8 playtesters each session, interviewing and managing a team of playtest proctors while ensuring they met research gathering standards, conducted more than 60+ research studies using in-person playtests and interviews, analyzed research data and generated detailed reports, providing designers with key insights and potential action items for improving gameplay based on user needs and wants.
