This website is maintained by Emma Fieser, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Illinois Chicago. It is a personal academic website and not an official publication of the university. Questions about this statement, or about data held about you, may be sent to efiese2@uic.edu.
I do not collect, request, or store personal information through this site. There is no contact form, no mailing list, no comment function, no account registration, and no analytics service. Nothing you do here is logged or measured by me.
The site is built and hosted on Google Sites. Google operates the servers that deliver these pages and, as platform operator, processes technical information about page requests — including IP address, browser and device characteristics, and request timestamps — under its own privacy policy, which is available at policies.google.com/privacy. I have no access to, and receive no reports derived from, this information.
Google also sets cookies on visitors to sites published through this platform. These are Google's cookies rather than mine: I do not set, configure, read, or receive data from them, and the platform does not permit site owners to disable them. Visitors in jurisdictions where consent for non-essential cookies is required are shown a notice by Google directly. Information about the cookies Google uses is available at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies. Most browsers also allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings; this site remains fully readable if you do.
Some pages may have embed material hosted elsewhere — [e.g. documents from Google Drive, a PhilPapers profile, recorded talks]. Embedded content behaves as though you had visited the third-party service directly and may collect its own usage data under its own policy.
If you write to me at the email address published on this site, your message and address are held in my UIC email account for as long as is useful for correspondence and are not used for any other purpose, added to any list, or shared with anyone.
Because I collect nothing myself, there is no processing by me on which the GDPR or UK GDPR bites, beyond correspondence you initiate, which rests on legitimate interests in replying to you (Art. 6(1)(f)). Requests concerning data processed by Google in the course of hosting this site should be directed to Google. For correspondence held by me, you may request access, correction, or deletion by writing to efiese2@uic.edu; requests are answered within one month.
This site is directed at an academic and general adult readership and is not intended for children.
Links to other sites are provided for scholarly convenience. Those sites have their own privacy practices, for which I am not responsible.
Should the site ever add a contact form, mailing list, or analytics, this statement will be revised before that feature goes live, and the revision date above updated.

Brief quotation with attribution for scholarly, critical, and educational purposes is welcome and is in any case protected by fair use; nothing in this notice is intended to narrow it. The preferred citation form for material appearing only here is:
[NAME], "[TITLE]," [URL], [DATE ACCESSED].
Copies of articles and chapters are posted in accordance with each publisher's self-archiving policy. Where the version of record cannot be shared, the accepted manuscript appears instead; pagination will differ, and the published version should be cited. Copyright in these versions remains with the respective publishers and is neither claimed nor extended by this site. Rights holders who believe material has been posted in error should write to efiese2@uic.edu, and it will be removed pending review.
Drafts, conference papers, and preprints posted here represent positions I may since have revised or abandoned. They are made available for comment. If you wish to cite one, please use the date given on the document, describe it as an unpublished draft, and — as a courtesy rather than a condition — let me know, since a later version may exist.
Images, figures, and quoted passages belonging to others remain the property of their rights holders and appear here under fair use or with permission. Their inclusion transfers no rights to you.
Syllabi, handouts, and slides may be adapted for non-commercial classroom use with attribution. Please do not redistribute assessment materials, examination keys, or any student work.
