A sculptural collage. This piece emphasizes that intense transitory space between childhood and teenagedom when girls in particular are thrust into adult problems and strategies they should not have to face. There is a danger to being 13. Ellie and Kate (Willow and Emma) plays with the idea of transitions, contradictions, and leaving childhood artifacts behind. The cluttered composition forces the reader to look closely for these hidden dangers and joys, or to miss the message and render Ellie, Kate, Willow, and Emma invisible.
