Santa Barbara Wines

Artiste

Artiste- Having owned two art galleries I love the vibe at Artiste in Los Olivos. Not only can you taste some of Bion Rice's famous blends but you can also enjoy the art, yes ART that Bion purveys. Bion works with some of the finest Contemporary Impressionist artists across the country to commission and license a new painting for each new wine. Artiste offers everything from private tastings to blending workshops Check out his new wine series with local artist Erika Carter.

Rangeland Wines- Everything Rangeland offers is sustainably managed and grown right there on the Adelaida Ranch. They are a family-owned business committed to creating wine & food experiences for their guests that reflect the natural beauty and bounty of the land. Although they aren't from agricultural backgrounds, they have spent 20 years learning the rudiments of ranching, winemaking and land stewardship by learning from others and simply doing it themselves. They have their hands in each part of the process -- picking grapes, herding cattle, bottling wine and actively conserving the natural beauty of our ranch. They strictly limit the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers in the vineyard, using their sheep herd as mowers and fertilizers instead of tractors and herbicides when they can. Their cattle herd is rotated carefully from pasture to pasture, leaving their soils intact and the landscape rich in wildlife, even in drier years.

Rangeland also raises natural grass-fed beef cattle and sheep that provide a healthy, delicious alternative to industrial, corn-fed meats. This meat is tender, succulent and healthy . Rangeland usually has their grill going on the weekends when you can enjoy their delicious meats paired with a fabulous wine tasting. Bon appetite !

Margerum Wine Company- Doug Margerum has been involved in the Santa Barbara food and wine scene for over 35 years. Upon graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1981, his family purchased WINE CASK. In 1994 the WINE CASK became one of 74 restaurants in the world to earn the Wine Spectator Grand Award. Doug sold the WINE CASK in 2007. So let's just say that Doug knows his stuff ! Margerum's tasting room is very well done high ceilings tile floors and images of the local terroir. The tasting room is located conveniently right across from the Hotel Californian on the edge of the Funk Zone. Additionally the food is wonderful. You can order their estate olive with fresh warm, crusty bread or indulge in a freshly made pizza or panini . They are clearly making some of the best wines in the area and their often packed tasing room is a testament to that .
