EMLEX WIKTIONARY HACKFEST
Within the framework of their academic activities, EMLex USC (Spain) and EMLex UMinho (Portugal) have decided to organize next 17 November a Wiktionary hackathon to familiarize EMLex students in Santiago de Compostela and Braga with collaborative lexicographic work in a practical way. The event will take place in the Pontevedra campus of the University of Vigo, which already collaborates with EMLex in different issues and is halfway between Braga and Santiago de Compostela.
No marco das súas actividades académicas, EMLex USC (España) e EMLex UMinho (Portugal) decidiron organizar para o próximo 17 de novembro un hackatón sobre Wiktionary para familiarizar os estudantes de EMLex en Santiago de Compostela e Braga co traballo lexicográfico colaborativo dunha maneira práctica. O evento terá lugar no campus de Pontevedra da Universidade de Vigo, que xa colabora con EMLex en diferentes cuestións e ademais se encontra a medio camiño entre Braga e Santiago de Compostela.
Characteristics
Hackfests, also known as hackathons, are events that bring together volunteers interested in developing a software project. This type of meetings are also common for Wikimedia projects, such as Wikipedia and Wiktionary. In our case, the aim is to bring together EMLex students and teachers with editors of the Spanish and Portuguese editions of Wiktionary to give a boost in developing the Galician edition of this project, the most important in the field of collaborative lexicography. This Wiktionary Hackfest will also be open to the participation of professors and students from all the universities of the EMLex consortium, as well as to all the members of the universities directly involved (Santiago de Compostela, Vigo and Minho) and, of course, to everyone interested in Wiktionary projects.
The event will be organised on Thursday 17 November 2023 at the Faculty of Education and Sports Sciences of the Pontevedra campus (University of Vigo), in Galicia (Spain). It will last throughout the day, beginning with a brief welcome and a qucik training on the editing work within Wiktionary. The participants in the Hackfest then form work teams based on shared interests or goals, although it will be possible to work individually. At the end of the day, work teams will present the actions they have carried out.

Os hackfests, tamén coñecidos como hackatóns, son eventos que reúnen voluntariado interesado en desenvolver un proxecto de software. Este tipo de reunións tamén son comúns para os proxectos de Wikimedia, como Wikipedia e Wiktionary. No noso caso, o obxectivo é reunirmos estudantado e profesorado de EMLex con voluntariado das edicións en castelán e portugués de Wiktionary para impulsar o desenvolvemento da edición en galego deste proxecto, o máis importante no campo da lexicografía colaborativa. Este Wiktionary Hackfest tamén estará aberto á participación de profesorado e alumnado de todas as universidades do consorcio EMLex, así como a todos os membros das universidades directamente implicadas (Santiago de Compostela, Vigo e Minho) e, naturalmente, a todas as persoas interesadas en proxectos de Wiktionary.
O acto terá lugar no xoves 17 de novembro de 2023 na Facultade de Ciencias da Educación e do Deporte do campus de Pontevedra (Universidade de Vigo). Durará todo o día, comezando cunha breve benvida e unha formación rápida sobre o traballo de edición dentro de Wiktionary. As persoas que participen no Hackfest formarán equipos de traballo baseados en intereses ou obxectivos partillados, aínda que será posible traballar individualmente. No final do día, os equipos de traballo presentarán as accións que levaron a cabo.
