My name is Emily Larson Gurr, and I am currently in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Salt Lake Community College, and should graduate in May 2026. I am the youngest of four and have spent the majority of my life inside of Utah County, though I moved to Idaho for two semesters for college at Brigham Young University - Idaho, as well as moving to Mexico for a month before moving to Houston for a year. I am fluent in Spanish and am learning Portuguese.
For a while, I struggled to decide on a career. All I knew was I wanted to find a way to help others. After completing physical therapy on my knees and feet, I began looking into the general region. As I am squeemish, I thought there would be no way I would ever end up in the medical field, but here I am! I love the opportunity occupational therapy provides in assisting others. Once I have completed the program, I hope to continue my career within the Early Intervention community. I am excited and grateful to have the opportunity to grow my learning in, specifically in occupational therapy!
To me, occupational therapy is a way of meeting others where they're at and helping them gain, regain, and/or maintain the skills they need to have a fulfilling life and complete the things that are meaningful to them.
