Emily Garcia is a PhD candidate in the Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University. She is co-advised by Dr. Zachary J. Hass and Dr. Paul M. Griffin and conducts research in the Long Term Care Policy/Program/Intervention Evaluation (LTC-PIE) Lab. Her work focuses on developing and optimizing clinical decision support systems that promote operational efficiency, healthcare equity and patient-centered care.
She is a recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and the Purdue University Doctoral Fellowship. While at Purdue, Emily founded Purdue's Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Graduate Chapter, has served as a Graduate Advisor for the Tau Beta Pi (TBP) Indiana Alpha, and has advocated for engineering graduate student and faculty members as a Purdue Graduate Student Mentoring Fellow.
In 2022 and 2023, Emily interned as data scientist and technology engineer, respectively, at Johnson & Johnson under Janssen Pharmaceuticals in Titusville and Raritan, New Jersey. In 2020, she interned as a software engineer for Cisco Systems in San Jose, California.
Emily received her B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley. At UC Berkeley, she served as president of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) and Lambda Theta Alpha (LTA) Delta Omicron. She was also an active member of Hispanic Engineers and Scientists (HES).
In 2016, Emily was named a Gates Millenium Scholar and was selected as the sole Monterey County recipient of the UC Berkeley Fiat Lux Scholarship.
