I approach teaching as a collaborative and critical practice. I strive to create inclusive, dialogic classroom spaces where students feel empowered to connect anthropological thinking to their own lives and communities. My courses emphasize active engagement with diverse media, images, texts, oral histories, and archives, and center historically marginalized voices and epistemologies.

The Image and the Archive: The Power and Politics of Visual Anthropology (UC Berkeley, 2024)
This course delves into anthropological approaches to images and archives, going beyond viewing visual media as mere ethnographic evidence to exploring their active role in shaping social worlds and pressing contemporary problems. Key topics include the ethics of visual representation, the politics of archival practices, and the dynamic interplay between images and historical and cultural forces.
Students will take a critical and creative approach to visual anthropology, studying how images are produced, circulated, and archived. The course emphasizes how "silenced" or "alternative" perspectives challenge dominant visual and archival practices. Through theoretical readings, ethnographic case studies, and personal projects, students will examine how images influence the production of knowledge, power, and memory.
