Adobe After Effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application. It is commonly used to create and manipulate visual effects, motion graphics, and animations. It is widely used in the film industry, television, online content creation, video editors, and motion graphics/grapgic design artists.
While it seemed easy to After Effects at first because of how similar it seemed to iMovie, I quickly found out how difficult it was. Through trial and error, I found out how to move text and images in a way that was effective and not too quick or slow. The main problem that I encountered involved clicking on things on accident, and not being sure how to get back to what I was working on. These first few attempts below show my trial and error as I figured out how to make the best stop motion.
This was the first after-effects composition I ever made. I focused on how to move an image.
This was a second after-effects composition that I created. In this, I moved several different images, as well as adding motion text in order to create an interesting final result.
In this attempt, I've made a motion text for adding my own personal flair to a demo reel.
In order to create a motion graphic composition, it is important to have a good layout and flow of your project before you start creating it. By creating an animatic, a storyboard made up of many images as well as notes, it gives the creator a rough idea of what the final version will look like.
This is the animatic that I created for my final for this class. Knowing how to make storyboards and animatics is very important as a motion, graphic, designer, especially. I am proud of my first attempt at a true animatic as I feel like it is pretty spot on to the final version that I created.
After a lot of trial and error, I finally was able to make my final project in After Effects. By the end of this project, I had a deeper understanding of how the program worked compared to when I first started off learning how to use it. Are you various different aspects of what I learned how to do in the program as well as taking the time to learn more on my own time to implement into my work.
I am very proud of the final results of my After Effects project. It is clear that I put a lot of time and effort into this project as I hand-drawn and animated every single frame of this piece instead of just using images from the internet. This level of detail definitely reflected in my final version of the project.
