"Noi siciliani siamo soggetti ad ammalarci di noi stessi: un male che consiste nell'essere contemporaneamente il febbricitante e la febbre, la cosa che soffre e quella che fa soffrire"
Vitaliano Brancati
I have been a researcher at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), affiliated with the Laboratory for Applied Ontology at the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies (ISTC), since October 2020. I previously had research positions at the Institute for Formal Ontology and Medical Information Science (Germany; 2011-2013), at the Laboratory of Digital Sciences of Nantes (France; 2017-2018), and at the Le Studium Loire Valley Institute for Advanced Studies (France 2019-2020).
I have a background in philosophy (both B.A. (2010) and M.A. (2012) from the University of Catania, Italy) and a PhD in Computer Science (2017, University of Trento, Italy).
My research focuses on applied ontology, primarily delving into foundational and methodological aspects related to the use of conceptual models and ontologies. The research areas where I’m mostly active are product design, manufacturing, and digital humanities. Regarding the latter, my particular interests lie in literature (and literary studies) and music (musicology).
I’m also interested in (analytic) metaphysics, logic, and process modeling.
So far I have invested my spare time in reading books, learning foreign languages (English, French, Spanish, and German), swimming, biking, trekking, climbing, and hanging out with friends (and other forms of life).
