  Emilio Hara has published over 70 papers and book chapters, and has received several important awards, including the Hatton Japanese Division Award of the IADR (2012) and the Young Investigator Award of the Japanese Society for Biomaterials (2019).

  He has been a short-term visiting Fellow at Harvard University (2014, Jan); Karolinska Institutet (2023, April-June).

What do we do?

In simple words, we work on bioengineering and biohybrid materials applied to bone, cartilage, and orofacial tissues.

Our Research Concept

 Fusion of different scientific fields towards a better understand of the development/formation and repair of hard tissues (e.g., bone, cartilage, tooth) using forefront technologies in Life Sciences and Biomaterials, while applying Reverse Engineering approaches to develop novel and more efficient methods/technologies for bioengineering.

Fusion Oriented REsearch for disruptive Science and Technology (FOREST)  2022-2024


 This project aims to develop new biohybrid materials for tissue engineering and soft robotics.

 These projects aim to better understand how bone and bone marrow is formed, and subsequently, by reverse engineering approaches, to develop new and optimized methods to culture stem cells in vitro.
