Character Sprites - Beverly (She/Her)

Beverly is the bubbly, extroverted Type-A gal of the party who'd sooner faint then walk out of the house without her makeup done. Elle Woods is her ideal (although she'd choose blue any day over pink) and works hard to ensure her looks and smarts are equally standout. I focused on giving her flirty and open body language, and bringing that inspiration into her expressions.

Character Sprites - Koralie (They/Them)

Koralie is the bold and prim rich kid who wishes they could live a life free of their parents. With so much of their life pre-determined, they look to retail therapy and online forums as an escape. I made sure their expressions were just as explosive as their mood when talking about their love for Lolita fashion, and they have their most precious device on hand.

Character Sprites - Amery (He/Him)

Amery is a driven and snarky guy on the perilous journey that is job-hunting, his pose categorizing him as that one dorky intern. Past his crisp shirt and (fake) glasses, is a self-conscious guy afraid of facing his failures. In his expressions I focused on the intensity of his anger, as his defensiveness and readiness to spout matter-of-facts is also part of his character. His pained face was marked as "shy" for tagging purposes, but it is actually representing his frustration for a specific scene.

Character Sprites - Seraphim (They/Them)

Seraphim is the exhausted human in all of us struggling to keep the daily grind cycle going. Dark circles are a permanent feature of their face, and I made sure that in every expression you could see an awkward person just trying to get by. Their sarcastic face was marked as "sad" for tagging purposes, but it is representative of an eyeroll during a particularly tense scene.

Character Sprites - Jade (He/Him)

Jade is the blunt and carefree soul of the group, a tough exterior to match their tone of speaking. He finds it hard to trust others and would sooner shut himself away, and his expressions needed to show that. Yet, his smile is as soft as any other, since he will always be prepared to put himself on the line for his friends.

Precursor Battle Sprite Assets

These were used in previous iterations of the demo before the stylistic change for the battle scenes. Made in a similar style as the cutscene sprites, these were concepted in multiple phases including referencing typical fantasy media and other animated work to create dynamic base poses, before assigning them to each character and creating the assets. The final battle sprites referenced these for pose and proportion, by another sprite artist on the team.
