If you need help with an electrical fault now, call us immediately on our 24/7 all hours emergency hotline:1300 356 200
First, evaluate the severity of the emergency. Is there a risk of electric shock, fire, or other hazards? Remain calm and think clearly.
Alert anyone nearby about the electrical emergency. Ensure they stay away from the affected area to prevent further electrical accidents.
Do not touch exposed wires or damaged equipment. Electricity can be lethal. If you can, turn off the main power source to eliminate the danger.
If you cannot turn off the power, use a non-conductive item (like a wooden broomstick) to separate the victim from the power source.
Call emergency services immediately. Dial 000 for assistance. If you’re using a mobile phone, 112 is the emergency service number.
Administer first aid if necessary. If the victim is not breathing, start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
If you encounter fallen powerlines, do not touch anyone who is receiving a shock.
Call 000 immediately and notify the police and the relevant electricity entity
Keep others away from the fallen powerlines and do not attempt a rescue until you’re sure the lines are de-energized by the electricity entity
