Script Checks

Script checks are required by our state guidelines for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state rules. Qualifiers to the state tournament are required to submit their script to their district chair in preparation for the state tournament. Each district chair will review the submitted script check form, original materials, and complete manuscript to this end.

Please send scripts to Brad ASAP. I would love it if we could have these turned in to my physically at Redmond. I will also accept clean, clearly scanned submissions digitally. The forms must be filled out in their entirety, save for my signature. Completed script check submissions are due to me by 2/17. This allows me time to check them thoroughly before I send them off to the state level.

A complete script will likely have the following components:

• A cover sheet with complete citations for every work used and appropriate signatures.
• A copy of the book cover (if appropriate)
• A photocopy of the copyright information page (with ISBN/Publication Info)
• A photocopy of each page read
• A copy of the manuscript the student reads in the round
  • If you are planning on using the original work as the manuscript, you must note in ink every departure from the script for transitional/introductory purposes.

The second and third documents are two relevant sections from the state rules that might help you in preparing your script check forms. I know there is a lot of confusion out there about what constitutes an appropriate script, and the continually evolving digital landscape makes our rules difficult to keep up with. Please do your best to make sure you've followed the rules and that you've done so in a timely manner.
