1. What is the ELT Proficiency Test? It is an exam approved by Gatehouse Awards Ltd, a recognised Awarding Organisation based in the United Kingdom, to test English teachers' teaching knowledge, how they teach, the way they approach teaching, and the techniques they use in class. It tests the most up to date methods of teaching, classroom management, lesson planning, managing teaching, etc. The exam is designed to test your knowledge of teaching English.

2. Who can apply for this test? Any English teacher who possesses CEFR B1 Level or above. Students are also eligible to apply for the test as long as they have an approval from their "part-time work place", i.e. education centre or school.

3. What does the test look like? The test consists of three modules, with a total of 100 multiple choice questions. The tests are taken online and supervised by a trained invigilator. The test takes 2.5 hours in total.

4. How many questions do I need to get right? The Awarding Organisation Gatehouse Awards will set grade boundaries after each exam series.

5. What about the certificate? The candidates who achieve a "pass" or “pass with merit” will be awarded an internationally recognised certificate issued by Gatehouse Awards. It means you prove your teaching knowledge with a globally recognised certificate.

6. How do I check whether the certificate I receive is genuine or not? You (or you’ your current or prospective employer) can check the authenticity of an issued certificate online. Please go to the official website www.gatehouseawards.org and click the ‘Certificate Check’ button on the homepage. Your certificate will display a unique certificate number you can enter to confirm the certificate’s authenticity. The certificate will also contain a "QR CODE" which, when scanned, takes you directly to a confirmation message. You can use the certificate to demonstrate to your workplace that you have taken the ELT Proficiency Test.

7. How will I receive the certificate? The certificate is an e-certificate and it will be delivered via email. You may store it and use it electronically or you may print it out. If you wish to get a hard copy printed by Gatehouse Awards in the UK, there will be extra charge for printing and postage. The choice between an e-certificate or a hard copy is yours, but both of them play the same role.

8. What are the advantages of this certificate? This certificate is issued by Gatehouse Awards in the UK. You may use it to apply for local or international teaching jobs and demonstrate your commitment to continuing professional development as a teacher. It is a supporting document to your CV. Please also note that there is no expiration date on the ELT Proficiency certificate. The majority of employers require internationally recognised certificates for teaching positions, so the ELT Proficiency test is a great option for teachers.
