Going Through Withdrawal (Without Too Much Suffering) (Slides, Regular Expressions, Normalization Rules)

ELSUG2023-Session1-CorbyRoberts.mp4

K‐State Libraries recently withdrew 406,000+ physical items as one of the final steps in recovering from a catastrophic building fire that occurred in May of 2018. This presentation will include a brief background discussion, outline some of the challenges faced, and describe the workflow that was ultimately developed using a combination of Alma jobs, Alma Analytics reports, and 3rd party tools to withdraw these items in bulk.

Presenters:

Carrie Roberts, Kansas State University

Margaret Corby, Kansas State University

1:50pm - 2:15pm - Session 2

Promoting affordable learning and building community with Alma and Leganto (Slides)

ELSUG2023-Session2-StewartLowe.mp4

This presentation covers two initiatives using Alma and Leganto to enhance scholarly learning.

Ottenheimer Library is delivering core course textbooks that serve students as affordable learning resources. We describe simple metadata and analytics processes in Alma that can help with course content achievement measures and can demonstrate impact. The processes enable the library to deliver an annual course content progress report.

Social Reading in Leganto has the potential to enhance personal reflection and collaboration among learners who read a shared scholarly resource and can serve instructors as a tool to demonstrate the role of dialogue in critical thinking. We describe a project in which the library collaborates with instructors to evaluate Social Reading as a tool for the construction of knowledge around scholarly content and as a platform for inclusive community building among learners.

Streamlining Library Billing Operations with Alma and Banner Integration

ELSUG2023-Session3-Sander.mp4

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library put a pause on charging fines and fees for overdue and lost library materials from March 2020 – May 2021 during which time we migrated from Voyager to Alma. After investigating the ways that Alma interacts with Banner, Illinois opted for transferring fines from Alma to Banner (one-way transfer), but not transferring information back to Alma from Banner when the bill has been paid (two-way transfer).

Leveraging Alma’s capabilities has allowed Illinois to streamline billing operations and to reassess Billing Office staffing levels so that we are able to support all operations in the department at an appropriate level. This presentation will provide the fulfillment and billing perspective on setting up the workflow and the impacts of transferring fines once/week from Alma to Banner.
