With 15 years of international experience, Mohamed Elsonbaty is a recognized leader in regional and international science communication and journalism.
As a Freelance Science Journalist, he published more than 700 scientific pieces in various reputable outlets including SciDev.Net, Scientific American, Popular Science, MIT Technology Review, AlJazeera among others.
Besides that, he has worked as a Science Communication and Public Engagement Consultant for many international organizations as the British Council, 1001 Inventions and the American University in Cairo, where he developed and delivered various science communication and public engagement with science projects.
In addition, he has been working as a Science Journalism and Communication Trainer, where he delivered training sessions and workshops for scientists, researchers, media professionals, journalists, teachers, science communicators among others on communicating scientific content effectively and successfully to wide range of non-specialist audiences and through various formats at many international organizations as the British Council, DW Akademie, the American University in Cairo, and 1001 Inventions. Also, he is the author of “How to become a Science Journalist?“, a practical guide on science journalism basics in Arabic language.
Mohamed has founded SciComm-AI Training and Consulting committed to empowering science communication and journalism through the integration of AI effectively and responsibly. He co-founded the Arab Forum of Science Media and Communication (AFSMC), aiming to capacity building in science journalism and communication in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He is the former Vice-president of the Public Communication of Science and Technology (PCST) Network and Former Interim President of Arab Science Journalists Association (ASJA).
Mohamed holds a Master degree in Science Communication and Public Engagement from the University of Edinburgh, the United Kingdom, through the prestigious Chevening scholarship. He obtained a Bachelor degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University, Egypt.
Due to his contributions in science journalism and communication, Mohamed is the winner of Study UK Alumni Awards Egypt 2023 for Social Action. He was awarded the EurekAlert! Fellowship by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2019. In addition, he was chosen as the Mijbil Al-Mutua Award winner for young science communication professionals in the MENA region in 2017.
