The TMEA Region and All-State auditions are a great way to challenge yourself and build your technique on your instrument. The process is a learning experience like no other in the orchestra program. Each student competes on their own against other students from across Texas to win a spot in the TMEA Region 23 Orchestra. After auditioning for Region, students are eligible to audition for a spot in one of the Texas All-State Orchestras.
Auditions for Region Orchestra focus on two technical etudes which are released in late April or early May. (Required for Chamber & Symphony)
Auditions for All-State require you to perform the same two technical etudes from the Region audition as well as several orchestral excerpts from major symphonic works. (Required for Chamber and any student earning a spot in the Region Orchestra)
The goal of the process is to refine your playing, perform the etude to the best of your capability, and to push yourself to learn music faster, smarter, and with ease. The technical etudes contain skills that are necessary for young musicians to learn and master.
Mr. Kime will invite professional musicians each year (in the Spring when the music is announced AND again in the fall) to help you get started on the etudes, give you ideas on what to focus your attention on, how to practice the audition music, and to help you polish your performance before it's time to audition.
