On the way of the excursion, we will visit some environment friendly infrastructures (green infrastructures) and expect active discussion about them.
In the morning, we will go to Gujyo Hachiman City. Sogi-Suim (water), the first designated “Hundred Clean Water of Japan” by the ministry of the Environment.
Alleys in the city, “Mizubune (small boat for daily use)”, which still used by citizens attract even tourists. Ayu (Sweet fish) and their fishery of Nagara River, one of the World Agriculture Heritage tell us sustainable and traditional land use system.

The Toki River Greenbelt Project and Satoyama Erosion Control Project sites are our afternoon destinations. In the area, clean cutting of forest and excavation of argil (clay) for many years made large bare land (called Tokusya, locally) consequently and caused erosion disaster frequently.
As a countermeasure, Urayama 2nd erosion control dam was constructed in 1943.Then, in 1952, the first contour trench method was implemented on the hillside of Mt.Kokei and Mt.Dango. In 2000, the foot path was constructed by the Ichinokura-Oribe erosion control dame with citizen’s participation. These pioneer projects may suggest us the importance of multi-purpose of erosion control and revegetation.
