Are you crafty? Do you enjoy party planning? Can you run a copy machine? Do you have great ideas? There are many ways to contribute through PTA both on campus and from home. All are welcome!

Why should I join PTA? Joining PTA benefits both your child and the school. PTA events are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport, and discuss ideas or concerns.
When are meetings? Meetings are held once a month. Meetings are in the evening on zoom, so you can join while at soccer practice, cooking dinner, etc.
How can I volunteer? We have something for everybody! You are welcome to do as little or as much as you like. Here's a list of some ways you can help out: Join a committee (ex: Yearbook, PTA Association Meetings, Spirit Gear, Fall Picnic, etc.), help setup at events, morning crosswalk duty, make copies, and so many other ways!
Can I only volunteer on-campus? Nope! There are many ways you can participate in the pockets of your time from home. Are you good with technology? Are you able to book restaurant nights? Do you have connections in the community? Reach out to us and we can definitely find a way for you to help.

Lorie McGill
PRESIDENTHi! My name is Lorie McGill, and I am happy to serve as your 26/27 PTA President! I am mom to 2 great kids; Charlie (8th gd at Rancho) & Ellie (5th gd). I have been part of our PTA for 9 amazing years, having served in just about every board position we have. In addition to being a volunteer at El Portal, I am also privileged to be our school’s librarian. I am grateful that I get to share my love of reading with our students along with providing them the chance to grow their own appreciation for books. I love being part of our school’s support and part of building our campus community!

TreasurerHi Panther Families! My name is Trisha, and I will be your PTA Secretary for the 2026/2027 school year! I am a parent to a 6th grader & a 4th grader here at EP! This is my third year on the PTA board; I was secretary last year and have helped out the past few years as a PTA member. I also have the privilege of being our district nurse for Lowell Joint for all 6 of our schools. I truly look forward to making this upcoming year amazing for our Panthers!

1st VICE PRESIDENT EnrichmentHi, I’m Jennie Dagnino, and I’m excited to serve as your 1st Vice President of Enrichment! My husband, Jordan Varon, and I have been part of the Whittier community since 2019, where we’re raising our three wonderful kids—Ezekiel, Madison, and Leia. I also have the privilege of working on campus as an instructional aide, which gives me the opportunity to connect with our students, staff, and families every day. I love helping create fun, engaging experiences that enrich our children’s education and build a strong sense of community. As 1st Vice President of Enrichment, I’m looking forward to bringing exciting programs, activities, and learning opportunities to our school. I believe that when families, teachers, and the PTA work together, amazing things happen. I can’t wait to help make this a fun, memorable, and successful year for all of our students!

I have had the privilege of volunteering at El Portal for the past seven years and have loved being part of such an incredible school community. 3RD VICE PRESIDENTCommunicationsHi, I’m Brian Figgins, a proud El Portal parent with two children currently attending El Portal in 5th and 6th grade, and my oldest now in 7th grade at Rancho Starbuck. I’m excited to serve as your PTA Social Media Chair this year! I’ve previously had the privilege of serving on the El Portal PTA Board as Ways and Means Chair and Historian, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue supporting our school community. I love bringing families together by sharing the incredible things happening at El Portal—from student achievements and school events to volunteer opportunities and celebrations. I believe strong schools are built through connection, kindness, and family involvement, and I look forward to helping keep everyone informed, engaged, and inspired. I am a parent of a sophomore at LH, a 4th grader and kindergartener at EP. I love volunteering in the classrooms and helping our school be the best it can be. Carrie Coutts
ParliamentarianHi, I'm Carrie Coutts and I/m honored to serve as your PTA Parliamentarian this year. I've been involved with PTA for over 15 years and have been on the PTA Board for more years than I can count! I'm also an instructional aide, so you'll often see me around campus.I'm married to my husband, Jake, and we have three children: Alexandrea, who is forever 25 in our hearts, Joleen, who lives in Montana, and Austin, a freshman at Sonora High School. We also have a wonderful 7 year old grandson, Skyler. The best part of volunteering with PTA is seeing the smiles on our students' faces. I'm looking forward to another great year!
