RF Reader Placement

RF signals are significantly attenuated while passing through metal, cement walls and ceilings
Install the readers as far away as possible from RF emitters such as: transmitters, microwave ovens, large electrical motors, electronic ballasts
Make sure that the reader’s antenna is not blocked by metal objects

Measuring RF Background Noise

Use site builder with portable RDR to measure the noise level.
Noise level at the RDR placement should not exceed 80 units
Make a survey of the operating frequencies +- 1MHz

Multiple Reader Placement

Elpas recommend a 15-20m' distance between readers in optimal conditions to allow good overlapping.

LF Beacon Installation

Installed at least 50 cm from any metal.
Powered by 26 AWG cable connected to Elpas junction box. Max length is 3 m. No data in cable.
Maximum LF power is in front (and backward).
Install 2 LF beacons for better detection capability and direction determination (one before door and another behind). Distance between the LF beacons should be at least 4 m.
Set the LF beacon ID code by the DIP SW (8 positions)
Do not set the not allowed ID codes.
When not allowed ID code is set the LF beacon will beep.
When connecting first time the LF it will be beep after the self test (1-2 sec).

Document the wiring layout for future maintenance

Assumptions

Use Elpas cables only

–Use ELPAS’ 18AWG backbone cable (P/N ERS01703)
–Use ELPAS’ reader cable (2.5m’ 26AWG ERS01702)

Definitions and Rules

Segment: Continuous media bounded on at least one side by either an interface card, router or PLR
Channel:Network segments bounded on at least one side by a router. For installation without routers, the entire network is defined as a single channel
Max of 9 segments per channel
Node: Device that contains a neuron chip (requires service pin registration)
Max of 50 nodes per segments
The first 50 RDRs’ in a channel can work without a PLR
Max of one PLR between a node and the network card/Router
The 4 outputs of the PLR constitute one free topology segment

Total Cable length 2000 meters (18AWG&26AWG)
Double ended Termination 105 Ohm +- 1% 0.25W

Free Topology Specifications (recommended for small sites only)

Total Cable length 500 meters (18AWG&26AWG)
Single point Termination 52.3 Ohm +- 1% .25W (anywhere on the segment)

Power Supply Planning

Apply at least one P/S per segments that contain nodes
A node should be powered only by one P/S
For accurate planning calculate the power according to the following:

–Power required per IR & RF readers is 500/600mW 12-24V respectively

–Backbone resistance 2.2 Ohms per 100m’ single wire

–Ignore the RDR cables (2.5m’)

–Minimum operational requirement for a RDR is 12V
