Third grade's "flight map" displays the third graders class bird -- the Rufous Hummingbird -- as it migrates from Oregon to Guanajuato. As the Rufous Hummingbird travels, it signifies each lesson the facilitators will cover that week.

The "flight map" for fourth grade shows students what they will be learning each week by displaying the name of each lesson as we migrate from Guanajuato to Oregon this spring. Fourth grade focuses on 5 terrestrial migratory birds, so each week a new bird is introduced, leading up to a field trip.

To help students see the plan for our time with them, we created a "flight map" which gave an outline for the lessons that would come as the weeks progressed. Each week we moved the clip-on bird (pictured to the right of the lesson 1 title: "¡Bienvenidos a aves y agua!") down the poster as we "migrated" from lesson to lesson. The fifth-grade curriculum focuses on wetland birds as students learn about the cultural and ecological connections that migratory birds create.
