How to Request Family Reimbursement

Published on : 09-14-2022

Family Reimbursement monies are intended to provide more options and flexibility to families in meeting the requirements of a child or adult with a developmental disability. The program gives families financial aid for rehabilitative, recreational, and adaptive devices. However, family members must first demonstrate a financial need. If the application is approved, the money will be available for the purchase of the item. Applicants must submit all required paperwork. This money is only accessible to families with a child or adult who has a developmental handicap.

The first step in filing an application for Family Reimbursement is determining whether your family is eligible for OPWDD services. If you meet the requirements, your application will be considered by a review committee. The committee meets once a quarter to analyze and make decisions on each application. The review committee will look at your income and spending to see if you are eligible for reimbursement.

The Arc's Family Reimbursement Program is a free service that assists families with the costs of caring for a family member with a developmental disability. Transportation, recreation, adaptive equipment, and therapies are all eligible expenses. A committee of parents, persons with developmental difficulties, and people with disabilities reviews applications. While applications are accepted throughout the year, funding is often limited in the fourth quarter.
