Our Story
The money that is raised from the 5K and walk is given to the Small Wonders Miracle Walk, which directly helps the families who are currently in the NICU. The NICU is a branch of OSF Children's Hosipital of Illinois that helps the tiny babies who are born early and are need of extra help.
Our daughter, Madeline, was born at 23 weeks and 5 days. She weighed about 1lb and 5oz. The best analogy of her size would be she was the size of a soda bottle. Her medical needs included: oxygen, feeding therapy, physical therapy, a collapsed lung, 2 infections, billi ribbon light, grade 3 and 4 brain bleeds, retinapathy, and issues with eating. Today she is 3 years old who is spunky, energetic, and curious. We had spent 104 days in the hospital with Madeline and while we were there we received an outpouring of support from family, friends, strangers, and community members. Now we are want to give back to the families who are currently in the NICU with their little ones.
