Use of Collaborative Tools
The implementation of AI and other digital software is how we expand learning for students. Incorporating 21st-century skills within our core subjects is a fun way of engaging students virtually while still relating and building real-world skills. Child book AI is a cool resource that I will be using in the future.
💎Standard 4.D Promote Varied Viewpoints & Agency
Create CS and CT learning environments that value and encourage varied viewpoints, student agency, creativity, engagement, joy, and fun.
This activity required students to learn about soil types and indirectly invited them to think about how soil types affect plant growth. Not only was this activity authentic and sensory-friendly, but it also allowed students to apply what they have learned to the real world. Metro has planted a garden, and the knowledge they have learned during this activity could continue to be recalled through other garden activities.
💎Standard 4.B Design Authentic Learning Activities Design authentic learning activities that ask students to leverage a design process to solve problems with awareness of technical and human constraints, and defend their design choices.
This activity had value beyond the classroom. I grew up surrounded by gardens, which might be the same for some students. Regardless of that, every student gets to participate and observe the garden that was built at Metro. This activity gives them information about soil that is used both inside and outside the classroom. Because the activity was mainly centered on students observing the physical characteristics through looking and feeling the soil types, it was accessible to everyone. I love activities that add sensory stimuli.
