My name is Ellia Ableidinger and I am a senior at North Dakota State University. I am majoring in Elementary Education with an emphasis in reading, and Human Development and Family Science. The purpose of this site is to display the works I have created while enrolled in English 358. These works will include my framing letter, resume, and other job packets aspects, such as emails and memos. Also, this site will include my research proposal, studies from my field of knowledge, and an annotated bibliography. In this letter, I explore what my strengths and weaknesses are, how these have affected me as a professional writer, and how I have grown in varying aspects. I will allow this letter to assist me in moving forward as a writer in my professional field and personal life as well.
This site page includes my job packet and resignation email. This unit was created around learning professional communication skills and applying them to job searching and the application process. We, as a class, focused on identifying our interests and strengths, and where these might lead us in the job hunt. We found sample job openings that we would be interested in and went through a practice process of applying for it. I will be graduating and applying for elementary teaching positions, and before doing so, it is important that we identified our short and long term goals for the future. As an educator, I am dedicated to being a positive, helpful, caring adult for my students. I will aim to be a collaborative, strong, hard-working coworker. The job packet we created includes a mock resume, cover letter, and thank you letter. We also created mock resignation emails and memos to demonstrate how doing this in a professional manner would look like.
In unit two we began researching general, broad topics that interested us that were driven by probing questions. We found topics within these broad areas of research to narrow in on and further our questioning and basic research of our own. My original research area was this: Why have we become so reliant on technology?
Then , I narrowed my research question further to fit this: Why have school districts in our nation limited recess time and brain breaks in the elementary school day? I have created a proposal overview and transitioned into a formal research proposal. On this topic, I believe that incorporating recesses and brain breaks into students' everyday schedules allows them a much needed break for them to engage in unstructured play and imaginative brain use. This helps students to focus better and participate in class discussions, activities, and lessons more fully. This unit focuses on field work activities and research of our own independently.
Unit three revolves around deepening our understandings and abilities in writing, blogging, researching, and publishing of our findings. In this section you will find my annotated bibliography and blog posts.
