Teaching

My Teaching Philosophy

The purpose of education from my perspective is to connect the world in which we live to the knowledge we gain from others. Knowledge does not have power unless it is used to interpret the world. I believe this is the basis of learning across all disciplines. As a social scientist, I want my students to develop an interest in the subjects I teach. As I want to broaden their views of the world, I encourage them to develop a better understanding of themselves and the world around them and invite them to consider different perspectives. In my lectures, students practice how to read social phenomena from diverse angles and how to give proper solutions to these problems. With the particular topics of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, I believe I can make sufficient connections to the real world that will allow students to make application-type of exercises in the assessments and examinations. All in all, my role as a teacher is to propose multiple ways of thinking so that students think critically, to expand their potential to apply the classroom concepts, and to help them discover a lifelong joy of learning.

"Elle Yoon was literally the best. Always engaging, helpful, responsive, funny, and insightful. She always taught with full enthusiasm and excitement. Her tests were incredibly fair, I knew what was expected of me from day 1. Never any ambiguity on any of her assignments. Great teacher, and overall great person."

"Elle was fantastic! She was enthusiastic about the topics and encouraged student participation. This made it easy to want to attend class and listen to her lectures. She also made sure the students understood the topics as we want, as she frequently checked that we were fully with her during lectures. "
