Together with Stanley Levison and Bayard Rustin, Ella Baker organized representatives from over twenty-five political, religious, and union groups to train and assist grassroots activists that were nearly financially spent due to their dedication to the fight against segregation.
In Friendship contributed to Reverend King’s international trips and fundraised for the Southern Negro Leaders Conference, the predecessor of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. In Friendship ultimately disbanded due to low donor retention and the founders’ increasing involvement with SCLC.
