My 100-word story, "Escargots," was a finalist in Globe Soup's October Micro Fiction Competition:
I don’t remember the name of the restaurant.
But I remember my daughter’s eyes, bright blue and sparkling. The snails she’d carefully placed on her arms, treasures from her morning hike with Grandma.
The hostess seated us on the balcony, overlooking the tree-lined street below. Clara set her new pets on an empty chair, watching them as we ordered.
The waitress laughed, offered to use them as a pizza topping. The other guests smiled in amusement at the five-year-old girl and her snails.
And now? It’s just a memory, one more moment in the sea of time.
