Westford Select Board
I'm your neighbor Elizabeth, and I am running for the one-year term on the Westford Select Board to preserve what is special and most important to our community as we navigate significant financial challenges. We are in a position where expenses exceed revenue, costs are climbing, and major investments are on the horizon.
In this moment, preserving what matters most for Westford requires a fresh perspective, different thinking, collaboration, data, frank conversations, and driving to practical solutions.
I have long wanted to serve Westford in a greater capacity. When the unexpected opening for the one-year Select Board term became available, I saw it as the right moment to step forward and put my experience, skills, determination, and energy to work for Westford.
Financial: Fierce focus on operational efficiency and new revenue opportunities
Action: Data driven, strategic, understandable, and timely decision-making in pursuit of solutions
Communication and Community
Effective, frequent, transparent communication
Building engagement and trust
Commitment to continue to serve Westford, my forever home
I am a long-time Westford resident, parent, and community volunteer. My work experience spans both the public and private sectors.
IBM: I bring more than 20 years of experience working with software engineering teams in roles including Technical Editor, Curriculum Developer, and Senior Software Development manager. I have led cross-functional teams, managed complex projects, and made data-informed decisions, honing skills directly applicable to the policy setting, oversight, and strategic responsibilities of the Select Board.
The Town of Westford - Norman E. Day School Office Staff: I bring firsthand experience as a Westford School employee and have worked in close partnership with Westford's dedicated teachers, school administrators, and our engaged parent and caregiver community. I have a foundation in steady, responsive, and responsible public service.
Prescott Community Center in Groton - Office Manager: I bring experience evaluating initiatives, such as new revenue opportunities and targeted cost savings, and carefully assessing their impact. This includes running the numbers, scoping implementation demands (including the time required of staff and volunteers) and examining the long-term sustainability. Fundamentally, I measure the possibilities against a critical question: Does this change strengthen our community?
Massachusetts Water Works Association - Program Coordinator: Currently, I work for a non-profit focused on the public health area of clean drinking water in Massachusetts. In this role, I have demonstrated my ability to step in and contribute effectively, even without bringing prior experience in either public health or drinking water. I bring strong core skills to every new role, and this experience has deepened my understanding of infrastructure challenges, regulatory environments, and the importance of long-term planning and investment.
My Community Service includes:
Westford Recycling Commission - 25 years
Westford Junk in the Trunk free open air gifting exchange - 5 years
Norman E. Day School PTO Co-President - 2 years
Norman E. Day School Playground Committee, Cub Scout Pack 95 and Miller School Flower Garden organizer

Effective town leadership cannot happen in isolation. My decades of partnership and collaboration experience — both professionally and through my community service in Westford — have prepared me to work effectively across multiple teams, boards, committees, and with town management and staff. I have a proven ability to collaborate successfully in complex environments. My strengths include framing the big picture with data and asking key questions, such as, “What does success look like as we tackle this problem?” I value the expertise and perspective of others. I anticipate issues before they arise. I am comfortable making decisions. Above all, I pursue outcomes that deliver the best possible results for the community.
My husband and I moved to Westford in 1997. We were drawn to its beauty, safety, sense of community, schools, and open spaces. Our son is now a Senior at Nashoba Valley Technical High School, and together we enjoy spending time with our dog Louie (a Great Pyrenees rescue mix from Houston) and our cats, Tommy Tutone the One-Eyed Wonder, and Turkey. One of my favorite ways to de-stress is jigsaw puzzles and the Westford Jigsaw Exchange Facebook Group I helped create has been a great way to connect with fellow puzzlers.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. Please say Hi if you see me around town at local meetings and events and don't hesitate to reach me at ElizabethSawyerForWestford@gmail.com.
