Multi Media Artist and Tattoo Designer
Elizabeth “Rosie” Bunch is a multimedia artist and tattoo designer with a love for the fantastical. Born in Suffolk, Virginia, she has always had a passion to create which led her to pursue her BA in Studio Arts with a minor in Art History at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. Graduating Spring of 2025, she is excited to see where her art takes her after college where she will temporarily be working at her home studio in Suffolk, Virginia with her cats. She works in and often combines graphite, ink and a variety of paints to create pieces that bridge the gap between reality and the fantastical.
Her art focuses on her long term and deep love for fantasy worlds and stories, allowing her to explore themes of escapism, romance, and mythology. Her art is a way to make the unreal feel tangible and allow her viewers a form of escape. Following wherever her imagination and the materials take her, Elizabeth’s work invites the viewer to wander through the same realms she has loved since childhood.
In a world with difficult realities, my art serves to blur the lines between fantasy and reality. To create a portal to the enchanting worlds I began to get lost in as a child and continue to wander through today. In my work, I explore the realms of fantasy and romance, capturing the comfort I have always found in stories. I create art with mystical subjects, feelings, and motifs from mythology, folklore, fiction, and romance to bridge the gap between reality and escapism. My work aims to create a space where the fabled feels more tangible.
The process of my work is driven by a need to make the unreal more palpable. I begin inspired by fiction and choose mediums that erase the borders between illusion and existence. Ceramics allows me to mold forms that feel both tactile and otherworldly, capturing a figure from myth and halting them in time. The slow drying nature of oil paints gives me an opportunity to capture detail and delicacy to refine my subjects, unfolding their depth and narrative. The rapid drying qualities of watercolor, acrylic, and ink create a sense of urgency and haste, embodying the fast pace and rush you feel from a story. With these methods I invoke the ethereal and mysterious qualities of fantasy. Each medium reflects the make believe worlds I escape to, from the sculptural permanence of ceramics to the layered, hazy dreamlike qualities of watercolor, each help me tell the story of the unseen and written worlds.
My work is an admiration and celebration of storytelling and imagination, creating an opportunity to explore the wondrous places that are created in the written word. I follow themes and subjects of escapism, romance, unearthly worlds, and fantastical beings. Through my work, I invite the viewer on a grand adventure to blur the lines between reality and fantasy.
