Counterpane

Though my time as a student at Jefferson County International Baccalaureate (JCIB) came to a close, I still enjoyed a year and a half on the staff of their literary arts magazine! My sophomore year I enjoyed being on the literature staff and published two pieces within that school years edition. The pieces were titled "Falling for your eyes" and "Coffee and Tea." They were both short prose pieces.

During the first semester of my junior year I served as the head of literature staff for Counterpane and was being trained to take over as editor for the magazine my senior year. I handled collecting submissions for literature and art, and sorted literature submissions. As a staff we all graded submissions and my junior year I had four literature submissions accepted into the magazine, as well as one art submission. Due to the Corona Virus, the magazine from my junior year may be delayed. I will attach all pieces below with some info on all.

Falling For Your Eyes was also based off an in class prompt but featured two characters from a novel I am slowly co-writing with my friend Julianna.

On loving a pessimist is based off of a poem I read titled "On loving an optimist," I thought it'd be interesting to flip it and write about someone loving a pessimist who was always cynical. The males in my life are usually more optimistic which is why I opted for the pessimist in my poem to be female.
Dashboard Times is probably the first poem I've written that I was proud of. It's an oldie but a classic and was in fact rejected by the poetry magazine, Rattle, which delivered me my first rejection. It's about loving someone who isn't all in. A bit like the one who's in love is waiting for the other to leave or ask them to leave. It's desperation and you're supposed to really step into the shoes of the person who is speaking in the poem. You want to feel as in love with the person as they are.
A brief description of humanity is something I remember I wrote in my Theory of Knowledge class. It was pretty quick, I only tweaked it a few times. I was on a huge criminal minds kick I think and really into philosophy and psychology alike.
Daffodils is my favorite out of a longer series of poems I'm working on, creatively titled "the flower entries". It's poems based on the meanings of flowers and I created it after a writing exercise at writing camp.
