LA County Public Works' STEAM Outreach Program has a mission to motivate our next generation to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) by participating in school events, giving presentations, and organizing hands-on activities.
A presentation or career panel is held by professionals with diverse background and specialty from LA County Public Works. Presenters and panelists would discuss their education background, experience in college, as well as real-life projects they work on in LA County. Depending on the audience background and age range, other topics may include applying for college, choosing the right program/major, exploring interests in STEAM careers, working in private sector vs public sector, or personal experience working within STEAM careers. For this event, the length would be approximately 20-25 minutes worth of presentation and 5-10 minutes for the Q&A session for a total of 30 minutes per session.
